GOLAGHAT: The contractual employees appointed under the Panchayat & Rural Development Department (PNRD) announced a series of agitations and staged a sit-in in respective development blocks in Golaghat on Tuesday demanding solutions to the various problems of the contractual employees.

In a statement, members of All Assam Panchayat & Rural Development Contractual Employees council said that the employees appointed under P&RD Department as contractual basis have been deprived of their rights.

The employees have been serving in various Gaon Panchayats and Development Blocks for the posts Computer Assistant, Gram Rozgar Sahayak, Gram Panchayat Coordinator, Accredited Engineer and Programme manager with a little sum of money in the name of monthly salary. The employees are facing a lot of problems and hardship to run their families with the salary.

In this regard the delegates of the organization met its superior officers several times seeking solutions to the problems of the contractual employees. But fruitful results were not received from the department of Panchayat & Rural Development. As a result the All Assam Panchayat & Rural Development Contractual Employees council announced continuous strikes and sit-in protests from February 1 to February 7. They demanded to ensure job security up to 60 years, preparation of ROP for all employees, implement the policy of equal pay for equal work, all government benefits should be provide to contractual employees, engaged the contractual employees in vacated permanent posts on the basis of departmental examination. They also demanded direct intervention of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in this matter. During the strike of the employees the developmental works in the panchayat level have become stagnant.

DEMOW: Under the banner of All Assam Panchayat and Rural Development Contractual Employees Council, the contractual employees of Panchayat and Rural Development under Demow Development Block staged a sit-in at Demow Block Development Officer Office on Tuesday in protest against their various demands. The employees lit earthen lamps in front of the photo of Mahatma Gandhi and started their protest programme in Demow Block Development Officer Office. They appealed the Chief Minister to look into their problems.
