DIBRUGARH: The Paddy Procurement Centre set up at Khowang Ghat of Dibrugarh district has received tremendous response from the farmers across the district and has procured 572.5 quintals of paddy at Minimum Support Price in the first two days, stated a press release.

Of this, 430 quintals of paddy was procured on the first day of its opening on Tuesday. Over the past two days, 20 farmers have sold their paddy at Minimum Support Price at the PPC. With an aim to facilitate farmers to sell their paddy production to government agencies at Minimum Support Price (MSP), which is fixed at Rs. 1868 per quintal, the Paddy Procurement Centre at Khowang Ghat was opened on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha visited the Khowang Ghat PPC and interacted with the farmers who had come from different places of the district to sell their paddy production. He also inspected the arrangements made for quality checking of paddy, registration of farmers and disbursement of money to the farmers. He directed the Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department to work in close coordination with the Agriculture department and farmers in a planned manner to take the paddy procurement process forward. He was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Jay Shivani and FCI officials during the visit.
