JAMUGURIHAT: A panel discussion on the topic 'Bhaona aru Samaj Sanskar' (Bhaona and social reform) was held in the premises of Chatia HS School as per the call of the Sootea branch of Axam Xahitya Xabha on Monday with Rajen Sahu in the chair.

Ramen Bora, an eminent bhaona artist and expert in this area, graced the occasion as an appointed speaker. Bora, tracing the history and emergence of the bhaona said, "Mahapurush Sankardev initiated this trend of enactment only to reform the society and to teach people through the medium of art and music. Necessary messages can be passed to the common people through this medium."

Bora also added the importance and significance of bhaona art in the present day context. Dr. Dilip Kumar Bhuyan, guest of the meeting, addressed the gathering and made a humble appeal to all concerned to come forward to preserve the universal and unique feature of Assamese culture. The meeting was also addressed by Pranab Ojha, Ikram Hussain along with others. The meeting took a resolution to celebrate the death anniversary of Dipak Kumar Gogoi, a renowned dramatist and director, on October 12.
