Major components of SLHP to be ready by August, 202: NHPC CMD

LAKHIMPUR: Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy (2021-22) headed by Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh on Tuesday visited NHPC's Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP) being constructed at Gerukamukh under Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border area belonging to Dhemaji district.

During the visit, the chairman and the members of the committee visited various sites of the project and took stock of the progress of ongoing construction activities wherein Chief Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC, AK Singh briefed about the progress in construction activities of the project. The CMD-NHPC assured the visiting committee that the major components of the project would be ready in due time so that 02 units (500 MW) of the project could be commissioned by August, 2022 and the project could be dedicated to the nation as per schedule.

Vipin Gupta, Executive Director of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, apprised about uninterrupted construction activities undertaken by project in spite of the difficulties faced by project due to COVID-19 pandemic and its associated bottlenecks, natural calamity like flash floods. Representatives of Major Works Contractors engaged in the project also explained about the quantum of construction activities in individual fronts.

The chairman and the members of the committee took part in a review meeting with the senior management of the NHPC in which detailed presentation on status of works was made by CMD of NHPC. In the meeting, the committee appreciated the hard work of the project team and the progress achieved so far.

The chairman and the members of the committee also visited an exhibition organized by Farmer-Producers' Companies registered for livelihood interventions initiated by NHPC in the field of piggery, sericulture and handloom in the downstream areas of the project. They appreciated the efforts and initiatives of NHPC towards sustainable livelihood for the people living in the downstream areas.
