LAKHIMPUR: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy (2022-23), chaired by Jagdambika Pal, visited NHPC’s 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project. During the visit, the chairperson and the members of the committee inspected various sites of the project and took stock of the progress of ongoing construction activities wherein Director (Projects), NHPC, Biswajit Basu briefed about the progress in construction activities of the project. The Director (Projects), NHPC assured the visiting committee that the project’s major components would be ready in due time so that 2 units (500 MW) of the project could be commissioned by the end of this financial year and the project could be dedicated to the nation as per schedule.
On the other hand, Vipin Gupta, Executive Director, Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, apprised about the uninterrupted construction activities undertaken by the project in spite of difficulties faced by project due to COVID-19 pandemic and its associated bottlenecks, natural calamity like flash floods, etc.
Representatives of major works contractors engaged in the project also explained about the quantum of construction activities in individual fronts. The chairman and the members of the committee held a review meeting with the Senior Management of the NHPC in which detailed presentation on status of works was made by Director (Projects). Appreciating NHPC’s efforts, the committee asked NHPC to take up hydro projects in a bigger way and emerge as a global hydro power developer.
