DHUBRI: Thousands of party workers of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) from 10 assembly constituencies of Dhubri Parliamentary constituency attended a meeting held in the Dhubri District Library Auditorium on Sunday.
AGP is gearing up to strengthen the party at the grassroots level in view of the upcoming panchayat election and Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing the workers, AGP president and minister Atul Bora said that after seeing the large number of party workers joining the party convention, it was now beyond doubt that party was growing from strength to strength.
Recalling the party’s convention and commitment, Bora said that since inception the party had been working for protection of indigenous people living in the State irrespective of caste, creed, language and religion and prioritizing development.
Attacking the Congress and AIUDF, Bora said the minority people of Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency had been electing with the Congress or AIUDF for quite a long time but the parties had done absolutely nothing for the minority community.
Addressing the party workers, working president and minister Keshav Mahanta said the minority community did not need political leaders to protect their religion but to work only for the all-round development of the community.
The party workers’ meet was also addressed by Rajya Sabha MP, Birendra Prasad Baishya, senior leader, Phani Bhushan Choudhury, Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita and others.
