Bongaigaon: A patient in New Bongaigaon Railway Hospital of Bongaigaon has allegedly been missing since 24 hours. Rajani Banikya, a resident of Rampur village of Sarbhog in Barpeta district and working in Gang No 44 under Senior Section Engineer of Barpeta of North East Frontier Railway, allegedly went missing since 10 am of August 4 from his bed of the hospital. But surprisingly, except lodging a simple police information, the hospital authority has done nothing in this regard.

Talking to media persons, Dulumoni Bonikya, Rajani Banikya’s daughter, said that she had admitted her father in New Bongaigaon Railway Hospital on August 3 for weakness and fever. “At night another patient admitted in the same male ward called me on my mobile phone and said that the condition of my father was serious. I came to the hospital the next day at about 10.30 am but did not find my father on his bed. The hospital authority has not given any response in this regard. They have told me that they do not know where my father is. I have lodged an FIR in Dangtol police outpost in this regard,” she said.

NF Railway Mazdoor Union staged a demonstration on Monday in front of the hospital demanding immediate rescue of the missing person. Talking to press, S P Das and Dipen Bora, president and secretary of NFRMU Bongaigaon branch, said that a departmental enquiry should be done. “Whenever a patient is admitted in any hospital, the hospital authority is fully responsible for that person. We demand an enquiry in this regard,” he said. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
