People decry sub-standard road construction in Kabuganj

SILCHAR: Inhabitants along the villages of Kabuganj-Berabak areas in Sonai constituency of Cachar have raised their voice of resentment at the sub standard construction work on AS 03 223 of NH 54 from Kabuganj to Berabak under Sonai and Dholai territorial road division. Soumitra Nath, a social activist, is simply aghast to see how the stretch of highway that connects the valley with Mizoram is being constructed in a whimsical and unscientific manner, giving the impression as if there is no monitoring and adherence to specified norms and guidelines for better and quality work.

Soumitra Nath drawing the attention of the media with photographic support and back up said despite his best of efforts to seek intervention of the PWD (highway) for quality work, he failed to evoke any response. Nor could he persuade contractor concerned to improve the quality of work. Villagers in general apprehend the highway might turn muddy and unfit for use with the onset of monsoon. Nath said he desperately tried to meet Aminul Haque Laskar, Deputy Speaker and MLA of Sonai with the prayer to pay a visit and see for himself the ground reality. This also was in vain.

With BJP Government at Delhi and Dispur, the expectations of rural people have always been high for quality work. With none to come to hear them from BJP and the engineers of PWD, they simply wonder to think when they will see good work. Soumitra Nath appeals to the media friends for an on the spot study and report on the condition of highway construction with the rider about its longevity.
