MANGALDAI: Officer in Charge of Mangaldai Police Station Inspector Mosco Saikia is no more. Known as a handsome, highly energetic and dynamic police officer with a people-friendly attitude, late Saikia breathed his last at Guwahati Medical College Hospital at about 4 am today following a cardiac arrest.

On Saturday afternoon, while visiting a village near Mangaldai town he felt uncomfortable. Then, he was immediately taken to Mangaldai Civil Hospital where the attending doctors advised him to get admitted to GMCH. Though he was immediately shifted to GMCH, his health condition became more deteriorating since 12 in the midnight and finally closed his illustrious chapter in the wee hours today. Born as the only son to the family of late Ramesh Saikia and Makhani Saikia of village Borigaon under Jakhalabondha Police Station in Nagaon district on June 30 of 1973 late Mosco Saikia joined the Assam Police as Sub Inspector in 2000 and got his promotion as Inspector in 2019.

He joined Mangaldai Police Station as the Officer in Charge only on July 3 last; and within these six months, he became a very popular 'Friend in Khaki' in Mangaldai for his humble people-friendly attitude. On receipt of the news of his untimely demise, thousands of people broke away in tears and assembled in the police station to offer their last respect. As the body was brought to Mangaldai, an unprecedented gathering of mourners from all walks of life including social organizations paid their homage to their loving Police Officer who always was seen with his smile.

En route on his last journey to his native village via Tezpur, all the men and officers of Police stations offered their homage to their loving departed colleague. His mortal remains were consigned to flames as per Vedic rituals at his ancestral village.
