DIBRUGARH: "The people of Assam will not accept the Citizenship (Amendment) Act." This was stated in unequivocal terms by both the president and secretary of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Dipanka Kumar Nath and Shankar JyotiBaruah respectively to media persons on Monday evening here at SwahidBhavan.

They said that the BJP government had been deceiving the people of the State, irrespective of issues like Indo-Bangla border sealing and others, by telling lies and cautioned the people that the BJP would indulge in the same tactics to make Assamese people fools during the forthcoming Assembly election of 2021. The AASU leaders reiterated that this time they would not be fooled by the BJP's false promises. Both AASU leaders called upon the people of the State not to get swayed away by BJP's false propaganda and to stand united against the BJP's move to deceive people.

Nath and Baruah told the media persons that the AASU would take up several agitation programmes during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at JerengaPathar on January 23 and Union Minister Amit Shah's scheduled visit to the State in the last part of the month. As a part of their protest, the AASU leaders stated they would torch the copies of CAA, take out torchlight rally in each district on January 22, which will be followed by protest meeting by wearing black face masks on January 23 and observing black day on January 24 by burning the CAA copies.
