People of Six Religious Minority Communities Can Apply for Citizenship: CM Sonowal

Morigaon: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday attended the Rajdarbar at the Jonbeel Mela in Jagiroad, Morigaon and presented ex-gratia to 18 kings of Guva kingdom.

Addressing a huge crowd, the Chief Minister said that false propaganda was being spread regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the State. People of Assam need not worry about the Citizenship Amendment Bill. “The people of six religious minority communities like Hindu, Buddhists and Christian who have been oppressed in Bangladesh and wish to have citizenship in India can apply for citizenship. But according to Bangladesh census report, there are still 1.50 crore religious minority people in Bangladesh, but they cannot apply for citizenship in India. “The people of Assam will get constitutional safeguard soon. He added, “The PM Narendra Modi-led government will safeguard the existence of the people of the State.”

Regarding land patta, he said total land pattas have been providing for 1.30 lakh small tea farmers and it would finish within this year. In respect of infrastructure development of Junbeel area, the Chief Minster directed both MLAs Ramakanta Deuri and Piyush Hazarika to provide untied fund Rs 1 crore for infrastructure development. Referring to direct transfer benefit, he assured that beneficiaries would get direct transfer benefit through their bank accounts of various poverty alleviation schemes of the Central Government.
