LAKHIMPUR: Phat Bihu, the unique convergence of the ethnic cultures in Dhakuakhana, the subdivision of Lakhimpur district, will commence this year from May 10 to 12 with a three-day long programme. Like the previous years, the festival, which is the symbol of cultural identity and self-esteem of the people of Dhakuakhana, will be celebrated at the permanent Phat Bihu venue (Phat Bihu Bakori) at Mohghuli Chapori on the banks of the perennial river Charikoria.
At present, the celebration committee has propelled the motion of preparation high in order to conduct the Phat Bihu festivities smoothly, glorifying its past tradition. “Our target is to celebrate the unique festival of the State making it more attractive and without any discrepancy. With this view in our heart, the celebration committee and its twenty-one subcommittees have concentrated to carry out their responsibilities,” informed celebration committee president MoniKa Patir and secretary Hitesh Phukan.
It is noteworthy that the folk cultures of various ethnic communities of the State are showcased in the programmes of Phat Bihu. A galaxy of renowned personalities, who have contributed much to cultural, literal, spiritual and other arenas of State will take part in the event as per information found from the celebration committee.
Prominent literary figure Ratna Oja, Padadhikar of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha Krishna Kanta Gogoi will take part as the chief guests of the public meeting to be held in the concluding day of the event. Bihu researcher Mukti Nath Borgohain will grace the occasion as an appointed speaker. Noted story-teller Manoj Goswami will inaugurate the public meeting while social activists cum former vice principal of Cotton College, Deven Dutta and cine director Reema Das will attend as guests of honour.
