NAGAON: A pistol was recovered from the Assam Police and two suspected dealers of illegal arms were arrested in this regard.

A team of Assam police apprehended two suspected arms dealers for the possession of a 7.5 mm pistol without the necessary documentation along with five live bullets. The incident took place in Nagaon and the arrest was made by the officials at the Borghat Police Station in the Nagaon district of Assam.

The police team carried out the operation after they received intelligence regarding suspected arms dealers. Following specific inputs, the police team carried out the operation near the Sims Multispeciality Hospital in Nagaon.

The Assam Police team was led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Rupjyoti Kalita. The team carried out the operation in the guise of cricketers. The identities of the two suspects have been revealed as Empta Gompa and Emna. Both of them belong to the Langpa region of the Mokokchung district of Nagaland.

Empta Gompa is a retired service person with the Indian Reserve Battalion located in Nagalang and got into selling arms illegally after retirement from his job.

In a previous development, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell recovered one handgun, one air gun, and 10 rounds of .22 ammunition during a search operation at the arrested Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) chief engineer Indrajit Bora's home in Games Village in Guwahati. The sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption have taken immediate possession of the weapons and ammo. The anti-corruption squad officials had earlier discovered a significant quantity of cash during a thorough investigation of Bora's home.

Significantly, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation's (GMC) head engineer was detained for soliciting and receiving bribes. On Wednesday, a team of authorities from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell caught the chief engineer, Indrajit Bora, red-handed and took him into custody. Sources claim that Bora was detained after he accepted 4,000 rupees from the complainant to release his security deposit.
