Dibrugarh: The inaugural programme of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi College (DHSK) will be held on September 27 and 28. On the first day, at 7:30 in the morning, a sapling plantation drive will take place, which will also witness the participation of the forest man, Padmashree Jadhav Payeng. At the same event, Payeng will be feted by the college for his contribution towards environmental conservation. The flag hoisting ceremony, which will kick off at 9 am, will see the participation of the MLA of Lahoal as well as the president of the organizing committee of the platinum jubilee celebrations, Rituparna Baruah.

A cultural procession will then be inaugurated by famed musician, Rajen Gohain. The procession will be completion-oriented, with different organizations and institutions taking part in it. The first day will end with a cultural programme with the participation of former and present professors, and teachers of the college. The second day will start off with a quiz competition among school-going children across many schools coupled with on-the-spot essay writing competition. A discussion on the educational system will be held under the moderatorship of noted educationist and former Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) of Tezpur University, Professor Madan Sharma. The open meeting, scheduled to start at 2 p.m., will witness the participation of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Important dignitaries including MP Rameshwar Teli, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Ranjit Tamuli, noted litterateur and the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship Dr. Nagen Saikia and MLA Prashanta Phukan, among others.
