Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a telephonic conversation with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday assured the Centre's help to deal with the double whammy of floods and COVID-19.
During the telephonic conversation, Sonowal intimated the PM about the various problems plaguing the state -- floods, erosion, and the COVID-19. Sonowal also informed the PM about the various steps taken by the State Government to offset these problems.
Modi, on his part, assured Sonowal of the Centre's help in resolving these problems.
This phone calls come in the wake of rising demands in Assam for central assistance in dealing with the recurring floods in Assam. At the same time, many indigenous organizations have demanded the Prime Minister to declare the flood issue as a national calamity.
