Jorhat: Good news for the people of Jorhat and Majuli. Two Ro-Pax vessels have arrived at Majuli. These would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 9. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance and Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would be present at Majuli for the event. PM Modi would join the event online.

The vessels are part of the government's plan to improve inland water connectivity in the state. Commuting between Majuli, the world's largest river island and Jorhat will become more comfortable and convenient once the vessels start operation.

Local are particularly excited about the arrival of the vessels as Rass Utsav, one of the big Hindu festivals celebrated in a big way in Majuli is scheduled for next month.

"We are happy that the two Ro ships have arrived. It has come just days ahead of Raas Utsav and Paal Naam. A lot of people converge because of Raas and Paal Naam. This time it will be convenient for all to commute," a local person said.

The ships have a capacity to accommodate at least 200 passengers and around 50 light and medium vehicles each.
