GUWAHATI: In yet another successful operation by a joint team from Assam Police and Kamrup Police, a peddler namely Ritumoni Pator@ Tikni of Lalmati, Guwahati, was caught at Hatigaon with 250 gms of heroin.

The police team, led by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint CP, Guwahati City and DSP Kamrup Kalyan Pathak acted on specific information that Ritumoni Pator alias Tikni, who was supplying narcotics in Guwahati city and Kamrup, was travelling from Dimapur to Guwahati by train and that he was carrying contraband.

Accordingly, he was traced moving in an Uber and detained near Hotel Bismillah near Khanka Road, Hatigaon in the city. On being searched, 16 pkts of heroin (weighing 250 gms without cover) enclosed in soap cases were detected and seized.

He was arrested on the spot and necessary legal action is being initiated.

In a similar operation on Monday, a joint team from Assam Police and Kamrup Police, led by Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Partha Sarathi Mahanta and DSP Kalyan Pathak, intercepted a Bolero vehicle near Saraighat bridge in Guwahati and recovered 750 gm heroin.

During the operation, two Kuki youth and one woman travelling in the vehicle with the drugs were arrested. The Bolero was reportedly headed for West Bengal when it was intercepted by the police team near Saraighat bridge.

The police team, acting on specific information, stopped and searched the Bolero vehicle, resulting in the seizure of the huge haul of contraband comprising of 750 gms heroin, valued at Rs 6 crore.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "In a joint operation, @GuwahatiPol & @KamrupPolice have seized 750 gram Heroin, hidden inside a four-wheeler vehicle near Saraighat bridge. The vehicle was on its way to a neighbouring state. Three accused have been apprehended. Good job @assampolice".
