LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Health Department is all set to conduct the polio immunization programme on January 31. This was announced by Lakhimpur District Immunization Officer (DIO) Dr. Gunin Kumar Gogoi and District Extension and Media Officer (DE&MO) Madhab Chandra Phukan at a press meet convened at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Thursday. The National Polio Immunization Day was originally scheduled on January 17. But the day was re-scheduled to January 31 on account of the massive countrywide COVID-19 vaccination drive that commenced on January 16.

In the press meet, the DIO informed that two drops of polio would be administered to children under five years of age on January 31. The Lakhimpur District Health Department has targeted to administer the polio drops to a total of 1,51,119 such children in the district on that day.

In this regard, the District Health Department has arranged 912 polio booths across the district and trained 3,584 health workers, including ANMs, ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers, to conduct the programme. On February 1 and February 2, the health workers will visit door-to-door to administer the polio drops to children who will be left out on January 31. The DIO and the DE&MO appealed to parents and guardians to bring their children under five years to be administered the polio drops.
