Political conspiracy behind sudden raid: Jana Mahan Mashahary

KOKRAJHAR: The president of Ex-BLT Welfare Society, Jana Mahan Mashahary on Friday expressed doubt that there could be political conspiracy behind the sudden raid at his residence by police team on February 4.

In a press meet held at the BPF office, Kokrajhar, Mashahary said that political conspiracy behind the raid in his house by police could not be ruled out as the Ex-BLT Welfare Society had been working for maintaining peace and implementation of BTC accord by supporting the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF government since the past 17 years. He said that no ex-BLT cadre had been involved with any armed group or anti-national elements after laying down arms and ammunition before the government after the signing of the accord. He said that during the Hagrama Mohilary-led BTC government, they did not face any problem or police raid. But raids had started after the new government came to power in BTC.

Mashahary said that the police team seized Rs. 1 lakh from him and another Rs. 1 lakh from his wife, two air guns and gold worth around Rs. 3 lakh-Rs 4 lakh, besides some bank passbooks from his residence during the raid. Mashahary said that he had been leading the Ex- BLT Welfare Society since 2003 to help the government in maintaining peace and rehabilitation of over 3,000 cadres and leaders of ex-BLT. He said that he maintained the discipline of former cadres and extended help to the government in implementing various clauses of the accord, besides being involved in maintaining peace in the region. He also said that the former cadres had joined different para military forces and many had settled down in their lives.

Kokrajhar Police led by Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan and Additional SP Mukut Rabha on February 4 raided the residence of Jana Mahan Mashahary, the president of Ex-BLT Welfare Society, in Kokrajhar town near Kokrajhar Don Bosco School.
