LAKHIMPUR: At present various government offices located under Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district are in shambles due to lack of adequate office staff. Besides the Dhakuakhana Subdivisional Agriculture Office, the Handloom Training Centre of the subdivision has been almost defunct since a long time.

The Handloom Training Centre of the subdivision has been allegedly functioning without any instructor for the last three years. The instructor has allegedly been serving at the centre of her native district Dhemaji for the three years but she has been drawing her monthly salary through the centre in Dhakuakhana subdivision without going there. This has caused much discontent among the people.

At present, one demonstrator and two casual employees are running the centre where a total of 15 trainees are undergoing weaving training. But only two sets of handloom are available in the centre for the 15 trainees while allied items and equipment used in handloom are not available.

Besides these problems, a contractor has allegedly misappropriated the fund granted for the repair of the buildings. The contractor changed the window frames and glasses, installed GI sheets and painted the old building and allegedly misappropriated major chunk of the fund. Moreover, the centre does not even have boundary walls.
