Guwahati: Popular singer and youth sensation from Assam, Achurjya Borpatra, has reportedly tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus.
As per media reports, the 'Korbat Kiba Hol' singer on Friday was advised by a doctor to go for a coronavirus test. A day later, on Saturday, his test report said that Borpatra is coronavirus positive.
As per reports, the youth heartthrob Achurjya Borpatra is now in home quarantine at his residence at Sarupathar, Golaghat. He is reportedly "doing fine", sources said.
Achurjya Borpatra, who has carved an identity for himself in the Assamese music scene with hits such as 'Mini Tor Piche Piche' is one among many high-profile celebrities who have tested positive for the virus that is believed to have originated in the animal markets of Wuhan, China.
It needs mention here that the number of coronavirus cases in the state witnessed a sharp spike on Friday, August 14. Yesterday, as many as 2,706 COVID-19 cases were detected out of 49,603 tests which were performed in the state within a 24-hour span.
The positivity rate in the state on Friday was 5.45%; slightly above the 5% mark that the World Health Organization (WHO) says is "okay."
With the detection of these cases, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state has risen to 74,501. Of these, 24,940 cases are active.
India recorded a single-day spike of 65,002 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data. This takes the total number of cases in India to 25,26,193. The country reported 996 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 49,036.
There are 6,68,220 active cases in the country, with at least 18,08,937 patients discharged or cured after recovering from the coronavirus.
