Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Week begins in Chirang district

KOKRAJHAR: Rashtriya Poshan Maah and Matru Vandana Week under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) are being celebrated in Chirang district along with other parts of the country from Wednesday.

The programme organized by the Chirang district Social Welfare department was inaugurated by Jayanta Basumatary, MLA of Sidli constituency, by lighting a lamp at the conference hall of the district centre at Kajalgaon. The exhibition of nutritious food was ceremonially opened by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah.

MLA Jayanta Basumtary, who was present as the special guest at the inaugural function of Matru Vandana Week, conducted by Shyameswar Mushahary, District Social Welfare Officer, said that mothers having nutritious food during their pregnancy state would give birth to mentally healthy children. The chief guest of the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah asked the Anganwadi workers to take information of all pregnant women under their jurisdiction and to arrange nutritious food for them. He also hoped that the programme would be successful with the active participation of all those involved.

Dr. Ratul Chandra Bordoloi, Joint Director of Health Services, Chirang, also spoke on the topic of nutrition and baby food for pregnant women. The event was also attended by supervisors, Anganwadi workers, and assistants of social welfare department under Sidli and Boro Bazar Block Development areas.
