GOALPARA: The Prasanna Kr. Ghosh Memorial Trust, in collaboration with Goalpara Xahitya Xabha, Axom Club and Goalpara College, will jointly organize the annual Prasanna Kr. Ghosh Memorial Lecture on September 29. Due to the pandemic guidelines, the lecture will be conducted through a webinar at the Goalpara College premises which will be inaugurated by Dr. Subhash Barman, Principal of the college. Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika, former professor of Assamese department of Dibrugarh University, will participate in the webinar as the chief guest.
Dr. Siddhinath Sarma, head of the Geography department, Goalpara College, and president of the Goalpara Xahitya Xabha will deliver the inaugural speech, besides hosting the programme. Dilip Kumar Sarma, artist and senior journalist, will focus in his speech on the life and contribution of Prasanna Kr. Ghosh to the society.
Prasanna Kr. Ghosh was born in the year 1858 in Goalpara town. During his lifetime, he played a pivotal role along with Jagannath Baruah and Manik Ch. Baruah in establishing Assamese language in the State. They were aptly termed then as the 'Tini Sonamua' of Assam by literary stalwart Lakshminath Bezburua. Prasanna Kr. Ghosh also pioneered in establishing the PR Government HS and MP School in Goalpara. It was established in the year 1868.
