BENGALURU: A 26-year-old woman hailing from Assam was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport for carrying a knife and other sharp objects strapped to her ankle.

According to reports, the woman identified as Uma Devi hailing from Assam strapped a knife, paper cutter, razor and other sharp objects to her ankle before boarding a flight.

The woman was scheduled to board a flight from Bengaluru to Guwahati along with her family members and her husband.

The woman along with four family members came for the preboarding security checks at 5:20 AM when a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer frisking her felt something unusual on her left ankle.

Upon checking the security officer confirmed she had strapped a knife, a paper cutter, a single blade, razor, nail clipper, a metal filer and tongs to her leg.

Meanwhile, Devi admitted to CISF of taping the sharp objects and claimed it was a custom in her community for pregnant women to tie metal parts around the stomach, however, tying a metal part around the stomach made her uneasy, she preferred to tie them around her ankle.

Later the airline authority was alerted and her luggage was offloaded.

Her family members, including her husband who is an employee of a private company in Bengaluru, had already boarded the aircraft and were also told to de-plane.

Meanwhile, the authorities carried out additional checks on the aircraft before it took off.

It is to be mentioned that the woman in question had booked seat number 1A which is close to the cockpit and claimed that she had come to Bengaluru for treatment.

Currently, she has been handed over to KIA police for further investigation.
