Preparations on for 7th Mising Youth Festival at Majuli

LAKHIMPUR: The magnificent celebration of 7th Mising Youth Festival (MYF) will commence from March 5 to March 8 with a four-day long agenda of colourful programmes. The extravaganza will be organized on the bank of River Kherkotia at Jengraimukh under Majuli district located near Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district. Meanwhile, the preparation for the celebration of the festival has already gained momentum with the relentless service extended by the members of Mising community organizations under Lakhimpur and Majuli districts.

The main objective of the convention of the event is to showcase the vivid culture of the community and to conserve their traditions in the original form against the aggression of western culture. Mising community youths and common people from various districts of the State will take part in the event along with tourists from the country and abroad.

The main significance of the festival is that the essential stages and other buildings of the event venue have been made with completely natural elements like bamboo, wood, straw and cane following the tradition. There is the main stage, two Muram O:kum, altar for hoisting flags, delegates camps, several welcoming gates and reception houses.

Bhuban Pegu, the central organizing committee president of MYF and MLA of Jonai LAC, said that the delegates would arrive at the event venue on March 4. The agenda of the festival will start with the unfurling of flag by organizing committee president Ekalabya Gam on March 5 which will be followed by swahid tarpan programme to be conducted by Takam Mising Porin Kebang president Raj Kumar Doley to pay tribute to the martyrs. Then Taburam Taid commemoration programme, inauguration of traditional attire exhibition, competitions on traditional sports and Mising folk dances and symposium on ‘The life and works of Taburam Taid’ will be held. The symposium will be chaired by Majuli Cultural University Vice-Chancellor Dambarudhar Nath while Dr Rajiv Doley, Dr. Sadananda Payeng, Thaneswar Malakar and Dr. Dipak Kumar Doley will be present as resource persons. It will be inaugurated by literary figure professor Nahendra Padun. In the evening, competition on one-act play in the Mising language will be held.
