Principals should focus on grooming of teachers: Assam University VC

GUWAHATI: In an initiative to boost the spirit and endeavour of the Principals of various colleges in the Barak Valley, the ERD Foundation Guwahati organized a talk on the 'Role of Principals in Capacity Building and Career Guidance', which was delivered on Sunday by Dr RM Pant, the newly-appointed Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, at Khairun Nessa Begum Women's College (KBWC), Badarpur, Karimganj. More than 20 Principals from different colleges of Barak Valley, along with heads of institutions and other organizational leaders, participated in the conclave which was held in collaboration with KBWC and was supported by the Vision 50 Academy and the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM).

Addressing the college principals, Dr RM Pant said that enhancement of capacity and qualification of teachers should be a necessary focus of all colleges. "Academic institutions have to be more relevant, dynamic and pro-active in the fast changing scenario. Their adaptability will ensure their survival and growth in future. The Northeast, which is trying hard to make its mark in the education map of the country, needs to avoid complacency with just quantity or number of institutions it has and ensure good quality in its institutions. That only will enable them to create a place for themselves in the arena which is already crowded with established players," he said.

Emphasising on capacity building, he said that principals should focus on grooming of teachers so that they can deliver well. Principals should also connect with the parents and involve them in the overall development of students. He appealed to all the principals to take more responsibilities as heads of institutions and urged for their cooperation for the betterment of the university as a whole. The talk was followed by an interactive session on the topic 'Roadmap of Assam University Silchar for next five years', stated a press release.
