Kokhrajhar: As per a local news report, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has taken the decision to buy products of local weavers worth Rs 50 crores which includes the traditional Aronai, Dokhona and Gamosa.
While addressing the people of Niz Mugalbecha village that falls under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), the Chief Executive Member(CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Council, Pramod Boro, announced the government's plans to purchase products of local weavers. Niz Mugalbecha village shares its borders with Darrang district.
"The Assam government has earmarked Rs 200 crore to purchase traditional products produced by the local weavers," the CEM said.
He added, "Similarly, our Bodoland government has also decided to purchase Aronai, Dokhona, Gamosa worth Rs 50 crore from local weavers and we are in talks with our handloom department."
The local weaving training centre set up by Kiran Boro in the village will receive full support from the government, according to the CEM.
"I have declared an amount of Rs 10 lakh from the Bodoland government as a grant to the training centre," the CEM further said.
The CEM Promod Boro also expressed that he hoped the creative talents of the local promising weavers will be explored by the training centre which will enable them to earn with dignity and help empower the rural economy.
Xipini, a training centre that comprises 10 modern looms was earlier inaugurated by the CEM Pramod Boro. The training centre was set up under the aegis of Kiran Foundation and was founded by Kiran Boro, who had won the title of Mrs Universe Exclusive 2017 (South Africa) and is also a rising entrepreneur in Assam
