BONGAIGAON: A special initiative named Project Saubhagya was formally launched by Bongaigaon district administration on December 23 with an aim to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates (MMR and IMR) in the district.
Project Saubhagya is the result of an idea conceptualized by Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya. State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury ceremonially inaugurated the special project in the presence of the Bongaigaon DC, all members of District Health Society, health staff and targeted beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, Phani Bhushan Choudhury said that most of the time people do not avail government facilities due to lack of awareness and consciousness. He urged the women beneficiaries of this project to come forward to avail the healthcare facility offered under the project and make the project successful.
The Bongaigaon DC in her speech highlighted the prime goal of the project. She said that to stop the avoidable deaths of mothers and children was the main motto behind Project Saubhagya. Due to lack of adequate health monitoring, follow up check-ups and proper treatment, many deaths of mothers and children had taken place. Solely to reduce such deaths, the project had come into place, she said.
The DC and the Food and Civil Supplies Minister formally introduced the 'Partograph' - a page with various health parameters to monitor the health status of a pregnant women to avoid any kind of untoward situation which may cause any loss or lead to unfortunate death of the mother or the baby. The various health related data of a pregnant women received through the ANCs like BP, haemoglobin level, foetus status and growth will be filled in the Partograph and if the data figures enter the notified red zone/ danger zone then the pregnant woman will be immediately referred to higher medical facilities.
The data received through the ANCs will also be uploaded online on a special software developed under this project and the health status of the pregnant women registered under the project will be regularly monitored. The Bongaigaon DC sought full cooperation from all health staff and others concerned to make this life saving mission successful in the true sense. Post the inauguration, a special health camp for pregnant women was conducted. The Bongaigaon DC, being a doctor herself, actively participated in few of the pre-natal check-ups and extended necessary health-related guidance.
