Project Springboard of Cotton University, New Guwahati Adarsha High School concludes
GUWAHATI: Project Springboard, an innovative programme of collaboration and mentorship between Cotton University and New Guwahati Adarsha High School (AHS), successfully concluded with the grand finale and a valedictory function at the university premises on Monday.
The valedictory function took place in the presence of Vice Chancellor Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (Metro) Prasanna Bora and Headmaster of New Guwahati Adarsha High School Binoy Kumar Sarma. The CEO of Leap and Scale Foundation, Prashant Joshi, who sponsored the entire project, was also present in the event, stated a press release.
In his address, Prof Goswami congratulated the students and the team of coordinators and faculty advisors for the successful culmination of this innovative mentoring programme.
Inspector of Schools Prasanna Bora applauded both the educational institutions for successfully taking up this peer learning model which is one of the mandates of the National Education Policy 2020.
The brain behind this mentoring model and Bangalore-based social innovator Ochintya Sarma, who was the convenor of the project, said, "We were trying to solve what we call wicked problems. We never expected anybody could solve these problems. Making Guwahati clean, safe and bringing out the wellness of youth are really wicked problems. Our idea was to throw such problems to the students and see how they respond."
Head, Centre for Women Studies and the University Coordinator of Project Springboard, Dr Rakhee Kalita Moral in her address emphasized that Cotton University has a tradition of mentorship which is also practiced through the Cotton Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme. "Project Springboard came naturally to us as the institution has imbibed a mentoring environment since long," she said, and proposed that the present experiment by Cotton and AHS may be a template for other mentoring institutions.
School Coordinator of the project Binita Barman Dutta, during the valedictory programme, spoke about the positive changes she witnessed among the school mentees through the journey of the project. She emphasized that such a mentoring model should be replicated in remote schools for the benefit of students.
