BONGAIGAON: A special project namely SETU (Sustainable Empowerment through Transforming Ultra Poor in Assam) has been launched in presence of Phani Bhushan Choudhury, MLA of 32 Bongaigaon LAC, Krishna Baruah, State Mission Director, ASRLM, Anupam Deka, Chief Executive Officer, Bongaigaon Zilla Parishad and others at Birjhora Public Library. SETU Project, targeting poorest of poor household through graduation approach via community institutions is a special project approved by Ministry of Rural Development Government of India under innovation funding of DAY-NRLM.

The project is to take place in Dangtol & Boitamari blocks of Bongaigaon district, and Sidli-Chirang & Borobazaar Blocks of Chirang district as pilot project covering a total of 4,000 poor households over a period of 3 years. Graduation approach is a unique concept that provides over-arching support to targeted poor households to break out of poverty traps and earn sustainable incomes while also improving their socio-economic conditions. It is a women-centric intervention that impacts the entire household in a positive manner.
