LAKHIMPUR: The Rongali Bihu celebration, organized by the Lakhimpur district committee of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), concluded with success on Wednesday night. Titled as Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, the three-day long event was conducted at the playground of North Lakhimpur Boys’ Government Higher Secondary playground.

On the second day of the event, a series of literary competitions was held and it was inaugurated by Professor Dr Ratul Kumar Lahon. It was followed by Toka Bihu competition which was inaugurated by Professor Dr Ishmirekha Hundique, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). Ghilamora Kendriya Toka Bihu Dal, Kachijone Toka Bihu Dal, Bordoibam Toka Bihu Dal and Kapouphool Toka Bihu Dal respectively secured the first, second, third and fourth prizes in the competition.

On the other hand, Husori competition was inaugurated by Bihuwa Jagat Borah, in which first, second and third prizes were respectively bagged by Gomseng Bihu Dal (Ghilamora), Bordoichila Bihu Dal (Ghilamora) and Chereki Bihu Dal (Nakari). On the same day, Bor Bihuwoti competition was also held and it was inaugurated by Professor Dr Swapnali Chetia. Bhashwati Saikia grabbed the first prizes in Bor Bihuwoti competition while Austriana Dihingia and Prastuti Saikia secured the second and third prizes in the same competition. In the Saru Bihuwoti competition, held on the first day, Nishita Borpatra Gohain, Anushka Hazarika and Pragya Gogoi bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.

On the other hand, go-as-you-like competition, Bihu delicacy making competition among women, nuptial song competition were held on the concluding day. Almost 10 cultural groups, representing various ethnic tribes and communities of the State presented their folk culture during the ethnic cultural convention organized on the same day. In the evening, the public meeting was held, wherein a galaxy of noted persons took part.

In the programme, Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College, ceremonially released the souvenir of the event, edited by former AASU leader Prasanta Dutta. In the same programme, prominent radio artiste, lyrist and dramatist Syed Saadulla received the prestigious ‘Aai Asomee Bota’. Every year, Lakhimpur district AASU, in connection with the Rongali Bihu celebration, confers the award upon notable personalities, who extend remarkable contribution to the State in their fields of work. The awardee was honoured with Rs. 25,000, gamosa, cheleng sadar, xarai and other mementos. While receiving the award, Saadulla expressed overwhelming happiness on being selected for the honour. He said that the award would inspire him to do more for the Assamese community and the State.
