Protest against BJP’s depiction of Rahul Gandhi as Ravan in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: Congress workers on Saturday staged massive protest in Lakhimpur district against BJP’s depiction of Rahul Gandhi as ‘Ravan’ on social media.

The protest programme was initiated by Lakhimpur district Congress Committee (LDCC) in North Lakhimpur town wherein Congress workers and supporters spontaneously took part. LDCC vehemently condemned the alleged hateful behaviour on the part of the BJP in this connection. Leading the protest programme, LDCC general secretary (administrative) Gangajyoti Tayegam slammed BJP for sharing the graphic image of Rahul Gandhi in its official X handle, in which he was shown as Ravan, to malign his image. He said that such action on the part of BJP would incite violence.

“Such moves are unconstitutional and against the spirit of democratic principles. Through this action, BJP has proved that the party does not know how to respect the opposition leaders,” Gangajyoti Tayegam said. Participating in the protest programme, LDCC vice-presidents Opel Hazarika, Prahlad Saikia, Baharul Islam, Faizur Rahman and Congress leader Nityananda Mili also delivered lecture by protesting against the alleged nefarious behaviour of the BJP. During the demonstration, Congress workers shouted various slogans to slam BJP and express solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.
