Protest meeting against violence on women in North Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: In connection with the International Fortnight on Elimination of Violence Against Women, which runs from November 25 to December 10, the Lakhimpur District Committee of All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan organized a protest meeting in North Lakhimpur on Tuesday.

The meeting was held at Saboti near Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital premises under the chairmanship of president Lily Doley. In the event, Juthika Doley, the convener of the district committee of the organization, delivered lecture on various kinds of violence against women and related issues. The meeting demanded the governments to initiate effective steps to prevent violence against women.

Later, the attendees of the meeting shouted a number of slogans against rape, killing of women, smuggling of narcotic substance etc. The members of the organization also demanded to ensure security to the female students and other women. They also shouted slogans appealing all to muster public opinion against the harassment committed by religious fundamentalists on women in Iran.
