LAKHIMPUR: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Tuesday staged a massive protest in the State over price rise. Following the instruction of the central committee of the organization, the Lakhimpur district AASU initiated a two-hour long sit-in in North Lakhimpur town against hike in prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and other essential commodities, Toll Gate Tax, electricity tariff etc.

Expressing vehement resentment over the issue, the dignitaries of Lakhimpur AASU said that BJP, while not in power, initiated extensive protest programmes across the State against rise in prices of any essential commodity and promised that the party would take immediate measures to control the same. “But the political party left no stone unturned to rise in the amount of almost taxes and tariff along with prices of all commodities,” the organization alleged.

Taking part in the protest programme, AASU central committee chief organizing secretary Pulok Borah became vocal against the incumbent governments at the Centre and in the State regarding the issue. During the demonstration led by Lakhimpur district AASU president in charge Khirod Duwarah, general secretary in charge Haren Saikia, the protestors while holding placards and raising slogans demanded that the government should take immediate steps to control the prices.
