DEMOW: Under the patronage of the Assam Pradesh Congress and in association with Sivasagar district and Thowra Block Congress, a Janajagaran Jatra protest programme against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act was organized in Demow on Wednesday where Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) leaders along with Sushanta Borgohain, former MLA of Thowra constituency, were present.

The Janajagaran Jatra programme started from Demow Dehajan and culminated at Demow Chariali where a protest meeting was organized. The Congress leaders shouted various slogans against the BJP government and strongly opposed the CAA. Sushanta Borgohain, former MLA of Thowra constituency, paid tribute to CAA martyrs and said that the Congress was always with the public, whether in power or not.

Borgohain slammed the BJP government and said that before the election, the BJP leaders of Assam talked about protecting jati, mati and bheti but now they had gone back on their words. Borgohain said that the BJP was conspiring against the Assamese community and that was why the Assamese people must come out on the streets to protest against the CAA.

Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee also slammed the BJP government and said that if the CAA was implemented, it would pose a serious threat to the language and culture of the State.
