LAKHIMPUR: The activists of the Lakhimpur district units of All Assam Students’ Union and 30 ethnic organizations rocked the environment of Lakhimpur district with extensive, comprehensive protest programs against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).
The activists of all the regional units under Lakhimpur district AASU and the 30 organizations took to the streets across Lakhimpur district on Sunday evening with a massive torchlight rally, vehemently opposing the communally motivated Bill. Synchronizing with the State-wide protest programme initiated by the AASU, the activists of the 30 protesting organizations shouted slogans demanding the scrapping of the Bill, terming it to be destructive for the Assamese community and against the ideals of the Constitution of India and the Assam Accord.
In the protest programme initiated by North Lakhimpur regional AASU, the members and activists of the Lakhimpur District Senior Citizen Association, Pensioners’ Association, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parshad, Garia-Maria Deshi Parshad, Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), Marwari Samaj, Bhojpuri Parishad, Cheitagaon Mahila Samaj, Ward No. 8 Mahila Samaj, All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, students of Lakhimpur Girls’ College, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), Lakhimpur Commerce College Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, LTK College and hundreds of common people took part.
