HAILAKANDI: In view of impending flood and disaster related calamities, the district administration has asked the protirodhi bondhu volunteers to gear up fully to meet any eventuality. At a meeting with protirodhi bondhu volunteers at his office conference hall here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman, DDMA, Megh Nidhi Dahal asked the volunteers of the district to be in a state of preparedness in the face of flood, landslide, earthquake and other calamities. Dahal exhorted upon the volunteers to work for greater cause of the society and to remain in a state of high vigil and alert in the event of any disaster taking place. He asked the volunteers to inform in advance to the disaster control room number 1077 for any disaster risk activities noticed in the district. In this context, the Deputy Commissioner instructed them to focus on identifying vulnerable points and any human related activities that can lead to disasters and work on disaster mitigation to prevent disasters from taking place.

Dahal told the volunteers that identity card would be issued to them for discharging their duties smoothy. However, he warned them not to misuse it. Referring to the rising road mishaps taking place in the district due to non-compliance of basic traffic rules, carrying of excess passengers, non wearing of helmet, seatbelt etc, leading to fatalities, Dahal asked the volunteers to follow the rule of the road and also set examples for others.

District Project Officer, DDMA, Rupjoy Maibangsa called upon all protirodhi bondhu volunteers to be in a state of preparedness and appreciated them for the selfless services rendered by them during natural calamities, including the recent landslide incident.
