GUWAHATI: In this year's Republic Day, the Assam tableau showcased the tea garden of the state.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote, "Tea ~ a global brew that is synonymous with Assam, has a rich history built by warm and vivid people. Proud to witness the vibrant culture of the Tea Garden community on the Assam tableau during the #RepublicDay parade in New Delhi."
The theme of the tableau of Assam- 'Assam tea- the backbone of state's economy' has been cleared by the Union Ministry of Defence for presentation on January 26, the Republic Day parade in Delhi.
The design for the tableau was finalised by a firm named, Image Creations. This information was shared by Preetom Saikia, the Commissioner and Secretary of Cultural Affairs Department.
Saikia said that due to the COVID-19 protocols, the number of participants in the tableau has been restricted. The idea behind this year's tableau is to depict a tea garden and the activities associated with it, which also includes the cultural side such as the 'jhumoor' dance.
In last year's Republic Day parade, Assam grabbed the limelight as it won its debut Republic Day award.
The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gave away the Best Tableaux award to Assam last year. It was followed by Odisha and Uttar Pradesh, both in the second position.
Assam's theme for last year's parade was the 'Land of Unique Craftsmanship and Culture.' A total of 15 states and Union territories showcased different themes in their tableaus in last year's Republic Day.
The tableau of Odisha showcased the Lord Lingaraja's Rukuna Rath Yatra. On the other hand, the tableau of Uttar Pradesh showcased the cultural and religious heritage of the state.
Among the Ministries and Departments, the tableaux of National Disaster Relief Force and Jal Shakti Mission were chosen as the best last year.
