Public Accounts Committee of Assam Legislative Assembly visits Cachar

SILCHAR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Assam Legislative Assembly reviewed the implementation of various government schemes and projects at a meeting held here on Monday. Chaired by MLA, Wajed Ali Chowdhury, the meeting was held at DC's conference hall. The members of the committee comprised Manab Deka, Utpal Bora, Basanta Das, Ramendranarayan Kalita, Bhabendranath Bharali, Govinda Chandra Bose Matari, Hafeez Bashir Ahmed, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Karim Uddin Barbhuiya.

The committee has directed to file cases against 16,483 fake Pradhan Mantri Kishan Bima Yojana beneficiaries in the Cachar district. The members also warned that action against fake beneficiaries should not impact the list of genuine beneficiaries. The committee members expressed satisfaction over the work of the Public Works Department in the district.

The committee was informed that the work of Silchar bypass will be completed soon and will be opened for vehicular traffic by next December. While inspecting the projects of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, the members of PAC informed that they would soon visit the spot and interact with the customers to check whether flour is being distributed properly in the district or not. It was informed in the meeting that 5,130 ration card holders in the district so far have withdrawn their names from the ration cards.

In response to complaints about non compensation to flood victims in the district over the past few years, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli apprised the meeting that the government has already been informed of the relief proposals. The members of the committee directed to step up surveillance in forest areas to stop the illegal trade of forest resources.

The members also directed the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to submit the list of names of the compensated persons to the committee. While inspecting the work of the Home Department, the members of the committee appreciated the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police for their role in protecting the boundaries of Assam from Mizoram's aggressive attitude.

While sharing her reaction Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, "It was great to have been praised by the committee, it's my responsibility to protect the constitutional boundaries of the district where I am posted as DC and that I would continue carrying out my duties with dedication and commitment in the days ahead."

However the DC also expressed her sorrow over the killing of the policemen of Assam in the violent showdown at Lailapur on July 26. Echoing the view of Cachar DC, Cachar Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur also shared her reaction on getting applauded by the PAC.
