HAFLONG: Along with the rest of the State, Rabha Divas was also observed in the Dima Hasao district for two days on June 19 and June 20.
The final programme was organized at District Library Auditorium Haflong, where State Power, Sports & Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa attended as chief guest. The minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das, Principal Secretary (N) Debanon Daulagupu, Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar, and others.
During her speech, minister Nandita Gorlosa spoke about the importance of this programme and how students and public should know the greatness of this personality, who was not just an artiste but a true and spirited freedom fighter also. She said, “Bishnu Prasad Rabha’s name as an artiste, musician, dancer, lyricist, orator and a litterateur has stayed in the minds of every person not just in Assam in the country too. He was given the title of Kalaguru by the President of India Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan.”
The programme began with a welcome speech by Deputy Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das where he briefly spoke about the life and contribution of Kalaguru. Many artistes performed Rabha Sangeet. Various literary competitions such as speech, drawing, quiz and art etc. were held at the school level. Cultural programmes like Rabha Geet and dances etc. were also organized. A bus with branding of Bishnu Rabha Divas and playing Rabha Sangeet moved around in different locations and schools in Haflong, Mahur, Maibang and Kalachand for two days. In this programme officials of the district administration, Information & Public Relations Department and Cultural Department were engaged for two days.
BOKO: The Kamrup District All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), Kamrup District Rabha Women Council and Kamrup District Sixth Schedule Demand Committee jointly organized Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Divas at the premises of the office of the Bekeli Mouza Rabha Jatiya Parishad at Chekhadari village on Tuesday in collaboration with the Bekeli Regional Rabha Chhatra Sangha, Mahila Parishad and the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee.
The day-long programme started with flag hoisting, paying floral tributes to the Rabha martyrs, wreath laying on the photograph of Bishnu Prasad Rabha, tree planting and drawing competition among the students. On this occasion, an open session and felicitation of the first division holders from the Rabha community in the HSLC and HS exams was also organized by the organizations. The 110 students who passed in first division in the HSLC exam this year and 35 students in the HS final exam in Kamrup district of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council area were felicitated with certificates, a tree sapling each, a Rabha Pazar and a Rabha dictionary ‘Samlaychini Raosami’ (administrative terminology). The Rabha dictionary has been published by the Rabha Sahitya Sabha, where Rabha words are translated to Assamese and English.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by the Chief Secretary of the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee Ashok Kumar Rabha. The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Tankeswar Rabha as the chief guest, Principal of Dudhanai College, Goalpara district, Dr Lalit Chandra Rabha as the keynote speaker, while vice-president of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Ramakant Rabha took part as the prominent guest.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Executive Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Tankeswar Rabha announced the notable achievement of the Rabha Hasong Mission Talent 20 scheme. This pioneering initiative has successfully prepared 20 Rabha students to excel in the highly competitive UPSC examination, opening doors to administrative services in the country and the State. Rabha said, “This is a three-year pilot project and we are targeting 60 Rabha community students to serve the nation through the civil services.”
