TEZPUR: The Sonitpur District Agriculture Department organized a distribution programme at the Joint Director’s campus, Tezpur Mazgaon under various schemes of the Agriculture Department to the beneficiaries of Tezpur and Rangapara LAC in Sonitpur district. Rabi crop seeds were distributed to 60 farmers in four agricultural circles and three Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) for the year 2023-24. The programme was moderated by Agricultural Development Officer Dipankar Barik. The programme was formally launched by Tezpur MLA, Prithiraj Rava in the presence of Joint Director of Agriculture, North Division Bhabani Nath, State Kisan Morcha Vice President, Mrinal Saikia, District Media Expert Bitupan Saikia among others. Attending the programme, Assistant Director of Agriculture Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury explained the various schemes of the district agriculture department to the farmers.

Horticulture Mission Scheme for North Eastern and Himalayan Foothills (HMNEH) and APART distributed seeds of Rabi crops like soybean, lentil, onion, potato, paddy, wheat, broccoli and French bean respectively. Under the Apart scheme, seeds for potato demonstration cultivation were distributed to 261 bighas of land to Majia Agricultural Producers Company, 160 bighas to Rangapara Agricultural Producers Company and 155 bighas to Kalia Bhomora Agricultural Producers Company.

Inaugurating the seed distribution programme, MLA Rabha urged the farmers to cultivate different crops according to the seasons on the same land and said the government has given utmost importance to purchase paddy from the farmers at minimum support price. The MLA also urged the farmers to take crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The event was attended by Senior Agricultural Development Officer Anjan Barua, Agricultural Development Officers of the district, Agricultural Extension Assistants, concerned office bearers of BTM, APART, Scheme Officer Ranjita Goswami among others.
