Radha Kumari Rape And Murder Case: Prime Accused Gets Death Sentence

SIVASAGAR: The court of the Sivasagar District and Sessions Judge on Thursday awarded death sentence to the prime accused in the sensational Radha Kumari rape and murder case.

Bikash Das, the prime accused was sentenced to death for murdering and raping 21-year old Radha Kumari, by SK Poddar, the District and Sessions Judge, Sivasagar. The court gave Das a time limit of 30 days to appeal before the High Court. He was awarded the death penalty under section 302 of the IPC and was sent to Sivasagar district jail for serving the remaining part of his sentence.

The incident took place on July 10, 2018. Radha Kumari, a student of the Assam Agriculture University, was strangled to death and then raped in the Tinsukia-Rangia passenger train. She was travelling to her grandmother’s home on that ill-fated day. Her body was recovered from a toilet of the train at Simaluguri rail station.
