Guwahati: Akhil Gogoi who is the
chief of Raijor Dal has said that his party is ready to contest in two assembly
seats in the upcoming Assam by-poll which would be held on October 30.
Speaking with the reporters Gogoi said that his party will contest from Thowra and Mariani seats.
Both the seats were vacant when Congress MLAs left the party and joined BJP.
Earlier, Gogoi announced that his party's general secretary, Dhaijya Konwar, will contest from Thowra. The Mariani candidate is yet to be announced.
The Election Commission of India has announced that the by-polls to the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats will be held on October 30, 2021. The by-polls will be conducted to fill the vacancies in 30 Assembly constituencies and 3 Parliamentary Constituencies. This includes The Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. The Election Commission stated it has made the decision to hold the by-polls election after taking into consideration many factors after reviewing the situations related to the pandemic, flood, festivals, cold conditions in certain regions and feedback from concerned states/Union Territories.
Among the north-eastern states, the by-polls will be held in the states of Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland. The constituencies in which the by-polls will be held in Assam are Gossaingaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani and Thowra. In Meghalaya, the constitutions in which the by-polls will be conducted are Mawryngkneng (ST), Mawphlang (ST) and Rajabala. In Mizoram, the by-polls will be conducted in Turial (ST) constituency only.
