A CORRESPONDENT
HAFLONG: The rail communication from Lumding-Badarpur, which remained disrupted from June 2, is likely to resume from June 16. Rail communication was disrupted due to sudden settlement of track measuring 170-metre length by 10 metre depth between Mupa and Kalachand, causing inconvenience not only to the Barak Valley but also to the people of neighbouring States like Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram. This section of the NF Railway has been considered as the lifeline for southern Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.
At a time when people are affected due to the coronavirus pandemic, the disruption of rail communication has multiplied people's suffering with regard to food supply and other essentials.
The railway authority, however, engaged various types of machinery and manpower to restore the rail communication as per target. The high-level officials of N F Railway have been supervising the restoration works round-the-clock.
P K Das, Divisional Engineer, Special Lumding, while talking to this correspondent, expressed confidence that the rail communication would be restored as per the targeted time (June 16), provided there was no rain.
