TINSUKIA: "Durga Puja bonus is the legitimate right of railway workers," asserted Pulak Gogoi, trade union leader and publicity secretary of NFR Mazdoor Union (NFRMU), after the Modi-led BJP government denied railway bonus to employees.

Demanding immediate release of bonus on the eve of Durga Puja, the 52 branches of NFRMU, including Tinsukia, New Tinsukia, Ledu, Dibrugarh workshop, Simulguri, Mariani and Furkating of Tinsukia division staged protest in front of their respective premises maintaining COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday. Gogoi said that their agitation would continue till the government conceded to their demands.

Bongaigaon: "From the morning of October 22, no train will move on track. Not a single wheel will move on that day because all Railway employees will stage protest on that day if productivity linked bonus is not given within this time," said Ashish Biswas, joint general secretary of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union (NFRMU), on Tuesday during a protest in front of New Bongaigaon Railway workshop.

All Railway trade unions, including North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union, North East Frontier Railway Employees' Union, Purbanchaliya Rail Karmi Parishad and N F Railway Pensioners Association, had jointly organized a protest meeting on Tuesday at New Bongaigaon in front of the Railway workshop. Several noted leaders, including Ashish Biswas, T S Raha and Phanidhar Das were present. All the trade unions decided to go for strike against the government unitedly. P K Rastogi of the North East Frontier Railway Employees' Union said, "This government is a puppet of corporate houses and hence is working for the interest of corporate houses only. But we will never let them to do this.
