GUWAHATI: As part of the ongoing celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Lumding Division organized different events at the Guwahati Railway Station to commemorate 75th years of the country's Independence and to glorify history of its people, culture and achievement.
According to a press release, Anshul Gupta, General Manager of Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway was the chief guest of the programme, which was also attended by Pranav Kumar, Principal Chief Security Commissioner of RPF, Migom Doley, DSC of LMG and other dignitaries.
The programme started with a melodious performance by the RPF band. During the event, freedom fighters and their closest kin around the Guwahati area were felicitated by Anshul Gupta to pay homage to India's freedom movement and the crucial role played by freedom fighters. Renowned freedom fighter Krishna Kanta Lahkar, president of the Asom State Freedom Fighters' Association, was also present on the occasion.
The felicitation of freedom fighters or their closest family members in Assam will continue to be organized at all the important stations over the Lumding Division, while their counterparts in Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram will also be felicitated.
Maa Musical Group, which composed the Assamese version of the RPF Amrit Geet, was also felicitated at today's programme. A video-mounted truck screening videos of the RPF Amrit Geet and achievements of the RPF and a motorcycle rally were also flagged off by General Manager of NF Railway. The video-mounted truck will move over 15 important stations under the Lumding Division - Guwahati, Kamakhya, Jagiroad, Chaparmukh, Hojai, Lumding, Diphu, Dimapur, Maibong, New Haflong, Badarpur, Silchar, Karimganj, Dharmanagar and Agartala - to highlight the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the achievements of the RPF. The motorcycle rally organized by the RPF will also move over important stations with the video-mounted truck and finally it will arrive at Maligaon here on July 15 and then proceed on July 17 to Champaran, Bihar. It will culminate at New Delhi on August 14. Under the same banner, for maintaining a green environment, a plantation drive was also organized in front of the Guwahati Railway Station and Anshul Gupta and other dignitaries planted saplings. Plantation of 11,000 saplings has been assigned to the Lumding Division and so far, around 2,200 saplings have been planted at Badapur, Silchar, Dharmanagar, Baraigram, Jarimganj, Imphal, Diphu, Agartala. Apart from the aforesaid activities, Run for Unity, Jal Sewa and cleanliness drive are also being organized over the Lumding Division, wherein RPF personnel and their family members are participating with great enthusiasm. A target of 21,000 kilometres of Run for Unity has been assigned to the Lumding Division and so far RPF personnel have covered a distance of 1,525 kilometres. Under the initiative Jal Sewa, RPF personnel have installed a water counter at all important stations and more than 58,000 passengers have been provided with clean drinking water. RPF personnel are also rendering Shramdan under the initiative of cleanliness drive at important stations over the Lumding Division. The motto of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was to infuse sense of unity and harmony and also to spread awareness among the common people about the functions of RPF and the service it renders to the nation by protecting Railway property, passengers and their luggage.
