TANGLA: Unrelenting monsoon rains have triggered severe flooding in several localities of Tangla town of Udalguri district, displacing nearly 50 families residing on the bank of Naika River in the town on Sunday. According to reports, the unprecedented rainfall has raised the water level of Nonai and Naika, the two rivers passing through Tangla town, contributing to artificial flooding inundating several households.
"The unscientific drainage system and haphazard construction of houses are factors that have made people suffer in the locality,"said Madhusmita Mazumdar, a local resident. Another resident, Dr Narayan Bora exhorted the Udalguri district administration to review the scenario and adopt relief and rehabilitation measures.
