TINSUKIA: After 8 months, Union Minister Rameswar Teli and MP Dibrugarh was sworn in as ex-officio member of Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) on Tuesday even as the Board has been defunct after chairman Jayanta Baruah resigned following expulsion from the party and vice-chairman Nabanita Agarwal too had to resign from the post on the party's directive.

The oath was administered by Narsing Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, in presence of minister Sanjay Kishan, ADC Sarfraz Haque, EO TMB Monjit Doley, besides 13 elected ward commissioners. The Tinsukia district party in-charge Naba Doley while raising the issue of chairman, viewed that the voting should be done with the opinion of the ward commissioners.

While stalemate still persists in absence of any consensus candidates among the ward commissioners over the issue of chairman and vice chairman, the government is yet to forward the name of interim chairman as sought by the Tinsukia district administration a month back. Though initially almost all BJP ward commissioners, including the vice chairman, fought collectively to remove Jayanta Baruah from chairmanship on petty matters and virtually selected his successor, the issue fell apart due to internal rift and long-term party interest.
