Tezpur: The first level of randomization of EVMs and VVPATs for the upcoming by-elections to 74-Rangapara assembly constituency was carried out on Thursday in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the presence of representatives of various political parties.

Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar, DDC Farouk Alam, CEO of Zilla Parishad and Returning Officer for Rangapara by-poll, Diganta Baishya, and other senior district administration officials were present in the meeting.

Randomization of 371 EVM/VVPATs was carried out through the EVM Management System after which 197 EVMs (which includes the Ballot Unit and Control Unit) and VVPAT machines were selected for use during the polls.

While 20 per cent Ballot Units and Control Units have been kept in reserve, 30 per cent of VVPAT machines have been kept in reserve over and above the required number of 197 for the polls to be held on October 21.

The randomization was carried out after the first-level checking of EVMs and VVPATs was done and the second level of randomization will be carried out at a later stage. Another 23 EVM/VVPATs will be used for training purpose of polling officials engaged for the by-polls. Later, DDC Farouk Alam informed the political party representatives present about the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct which will remain enforced in the district till the process of election is over.

DC Narsing Pawar sought cooperation from all political parties and public representatives for smooth conduct of the upcoming elections.
