PALASBARI: Residents of the Rani area in Kamrup district bordering Meghalaya have been passing sleepless nights for the last dew days due to intermitted depredations caused by Wild elephants. People of more than 20 villages have been passing their days in panic due to movement of the tuskers in their village,including the paddy fields. On Friday night, a herd of 30-40 elephants entered the area in search of fodder from the nearby forest in Meghalaya.

The herd moved to a number of villages including Bikrampur, Nalapara, Mairapur, Panichanda, Udaypur, Khopegaon.

Mentionably, a njumber of persons of the greater Rani area lost their lives in attacks by wild elephants during the last ten days.
